BREAKING NEWS

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Bella Davidson.  She was a very loyal client of The Prince of Wales Bridge Club and The  Bridge Connection.  Anyone who knew Bella will miss her.  She had that ability to make people feel welcome and good about themselves.  At Bridge, she was a formidable competitor!!  Bella, from everyone, please rest in peace!!

The Prince of Wales game on Friday May 24 has been changed to a Club Championship pairs game from a Board-a-Match.

For those that have played in the IMP league and are interested there will be an "End of Season" party at the Broadway Sports bar from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on June 5th, 2013. The bar is in the small mall on the corner of Fisher and Prince of Wales.

The month of June will have 3 very special events.  Friday evening June 7 and Saturday afternoon, June 8 The Bridge Connection will be offering the World Wide Pairs Events.  There will be a dinner on the Friday evening at 6:00 pm.  Please sign up and BYOB.  This game will be stratified and we will balance the fields east and west so signing up does not guaranty a specific table or direction.

The "A" Spring IMP League started 10 April, 2013. We have 8 teams this session, two of which are "B" stratum braving the IMP league wars. As usual, this is not only an "A" Stratum event, we also invite "B" & C" strata players to join us. Depending on the number of teams that do join us the director can set up a Swiss Teams, Home Pairs or a short round-robin event.

On June 21st.  The Bridge Connection and Prince of Wales Club will participate in "The Longest Day".  This is a North American wide fund raising effort for Alzheimers.  The three games played at the club that day will be charity events.  All ACBL clubs have been invited to participate.  Let's do our best!!!

2013 SPRING COURSE OFFERINGS:

Bridge Basics 1 (BB1) is an introductory course of Bridge. It gives the basic principles of the game and provides a well balanced overview of bidding, play and defense.

Bridge Basics 2 (BB2) introduces innovative methods of hand evaluation and the bids that are used in competitive situations, that is when both partnerships are bidding during the auction. It stresses the ability of both sides to either get to the right contract or make it as difficult as possible for the opponents to arrive at their best spot.

Bridge Basics 3 (BB3) Popular Conventions - Offers a thorough grounding in the most common conventions; Stayman, Jacoby transfer bids, the strong opening bid, Blackwood and Gerber. This course illustrates the problems these conventions are designed to solve and how the conventions can best be used. Bridge Basics 3 will leave you confident adding these conventions to your bidding system.

Defense in the 21st Century will cover opening leads, attitude and count signals, discard systems and many more helpful tips to help you improve on this critical aspect of the game.

Play of the Hand in the 21st Century instruction series will cover play in minor and major suits, no trump, game contracts and partial games. Slam bidding and playing may be reviewed, time permitting.

"Supervised Play" for players who have completed at least BB2 for 8 weeks. Bid and play hands and then discuss what could have been done differently. A minimum of 4 full time students is required and a maximum of 7 students will be accepted.

If you wish to have an instructor teach you either a course or a workshop on a specific topic, you only need 3 persons of similar interest. We hope to hear from all interested students!!!
